Eternally hungry & armed with my Canon, I bring you my eating escapades.

Heard quite a bit about this new establishment and decided to check it out. I like the rustic concept and the “roughness” of the place. Good news is that every single outdoor seating allows you to smoke, and on top of that, you can flick your cig butt ANYWHERE. these 2 combined together, is a luxury for any smoker. They don’t have a menu, service is very warm as the owner sits down beside you and explains the various Cocktails/Martini concoctions they have. Zann went ahead with the Pineapple Martini and I had the Saketini (which is actually Raspberry Martini). Mind you beer lovers, they don’t serve beers here. We enjoyed our drinks, but wished there was more alcohol involved. We love our alcohol you know.

As for the crowd, I was really surprised when I saw people dressed to the nines in skimpy dresses to such a rustic place. How did they manage to walk with their heels on the uneven ground and up the stairs??! Crowd is a mixture of dating couples, big groups of what seems like uni students and a few executive-looking types.

There is also this female singer crooning out jazz renditions of pop hits, complete with a very nice white piano which I really liked. The singing lent a nice mood to the atmosphere without being too intrusive
Anyhow, We almost fell off the slope when our bills arrived. 2 Martinis cost us $48. *woohoo*
This is a place I will come back again sometime, with a bigger group of friends or maybe a hot date. and oh btw, I really liked this picture I took. Keke

Dim Sum Lunch @ Ah Yat Seafood Restaurant

Before Reyes arrived, we celebrated Papa Reyes’ and Ryan’s birthday over dim sum lunch @ Ah Yat Seafood Restaurant @ the Turf City. We polished off a whopping 70+ plates of dim sum. Not a morsel left I swear.

Brunch @ Barracks

Went to House for brunch sometime in mid-August with Jocelyn and I really loved it. Dempsey is definitely a much better place to be at during the early afternoon as opposed to the evening. It is subdued and calm, air is crisp and the atmosphere is relaxing. The brunch menu is not very extensive, but the food served is quality and well-prepared. Here is a perfect way to spend a lazy weekend afternoon. Will write more about the food the next time I go there. (Memory failing me la, can’t rmbr what we had.. can only remember the taste. Haa)

Our brunch: some cereal for Jocelyn, eggs Benedict for me, Strawberry Cheesecake (I die die must have this one everytime I go there)

Possibly the best wanton mee in SG

Sitting quietly in the corner of Tanglin Halt Market is the Guangdong Wanton Mee. Without a single accolode, this stall can be easily passable.
I was hooked on this stall since the day Zann introduced it to me. Apparently this stall has been operating since Zann was a kid! Don’t expect any sort of smiles from the stall owners and instead be greeted with hostility. (However when we went tonight, there’s an extremely friendly uncle who is all smiles).

The beauty of this dish lies in the sauce & chilli for the mee, and the wanton. The chilli never fails to break me into a sweat, and I really love the savory taste of it. Noodles are springy and nice. However, if you cannot stand the “kee” taste in mee like me, opt for the kway teow version.

The Wanton is simply out of this world. It lacks in the size department but is big on its taste. The pork used is savory, peppery and it sort of melts in your mouth. We’ve seen them make the wanton one night while having supper, the mountain of pork filling they use seems like any other normal pork filling we’ve seen. But what makes their wanton better than the rest? We’ve since given up trying to demistify and to focus on savouring the wonder taste instead.

One thing that I don’t fancy though, its the char siew. Char siew in my context, is supposed to be nicely charred and fatty. The lean char siew they use doesn’t really compliment with the rest of the dish. If they’ll use the fatty char siew, it’ll be PERFECT.

Guangdong Wanton Mee is at Tanglin Halt Market
Parking is a breeze as there’s a public carpark right in front.
