Eternally hungry & armed with my Canon, I bring you my eating escapades.

Tuk Tuk Thai Kitchen

Part 2 of my bummer Sunday with Judy. After viewing St Patrick’s Residences, we headed down to Katong for dinner. Altho spoiled for choices, we made up our minds pretty quickly since our stomachs were growling.

Tuk Tuk Thai Kitchen is your typical family restaurant. It’s decor is simple, the friendly waiting staff are quick to take orders and the diners are mostly families or couples. The menu is extensive I must say, and we spent some time trying to make up our minds. One thing I really like about this place is how quickly they serve up the food. Perfect for hungry diners like us.

We had the Tom Yum clear soup with Prawns. 2 thumbs up for this one! the clear soup was fiery and sour, just the way I like my tom yum soup to be. Prawns are decent though not exactly the freshest. Another thing I like is that the soup was served in what looked like a blow-up aromatherapy dish, the soup was kept warm throughout dinner. If you come here, you MUST order this.

Also on the spread is my all time Thai favourite – the Fish Otak. The fish otak here lacks the extra oomph factor but the soft texture makes up for the lack.
Not the best I’ve had, but decent.

The Spicy Chicken Wings were not at all spicy and tasted like regular fried chicken wings. Nothing spectular cept for it being crispy without being too oily.

The worst dish we had was the Thai Beancurd. Last I recall, beancurd is supposed to be crisp outside and soft inside. This was a hard beancurd, with a weird sort of meat on top.
Didn’t cut it for us and we left it mostly untouched. This shot does the dish A LOT of justice.

Tuk Tuk is a casual place to have a simple meal if you are staying in the East. I will definitely come back here to sample other dishes on its menu, and to have the tom yum soup again

Tuk Tuk Thai Kitchen is at 135/137 East Coast Road (opposite Katong Mall)
Parking is very much a challenge in Katong area. Park opposite at Waraku’s instead. (Be warned, I paid $4 for 1.5hours)
I give a rating of 5.5 burps

The Cheesecake Cafe

Have you ever looked at your lifestyle one day and realised that it has changed, without you noticing? Not too long ago, my weekends were spent mostly in town or Dempsey. As things change, friends change, and for whatsoever reasons, my new weekends are now spent either at Yan’s place or somewhere in the east.

Anyways, met up with Judy today to bask in laziness. We went to Kah Motors (ya, because COE now $2), ate at Cheesecake cafe amidst a pouring sky, visited a showflat at St Patrick’s Residences, and wrapped up with a Thai dinner at Tuk Tuk Restaurant.

At the Cheesecake cafe, service was impeccable. The owner is a hands-on guy. From getting us smoking tables to voluntarily whisking us off to avoid the splattering raindrops from the downpour to allowing me to smoke at a non-smoking zone.. I am thoroughly impressed. We had a robust coffee, a Strawberry-Oreo cheesecake and a Dark Chocolate Banana Cake. They are not called the Cheesecake cafe for nothing really. The dark chocolate cake didnt work for us but the Strawberry Oreo cheesecake won us over. And this is coming from someone who does not fancy Oreo and strawberries aint my best friends either!

2 coffees and 2 pretty cakes set us back S$27, so you do the math. I’d really love to write about the fantastic dinner we had but I ought to really get some work done. My 5 month old job is quite a nightmare. Well on the brighter side, it’s better to get swarmed by work rather than uncertainties in this current economic climate. Will be back real soon to continue this entry. Stay tuned.

The Cheesecake Cafe is at 685 East Coast Road (near Siglap Centre)
Parking is like trying to strike toto. Try the HDB carpark across the road instead.
