Eternally hungry & armed with my Canon, I bring you my eating escapades.

Les Bouchons

As part of our tradition, my girlfriends’ birthday dinners are mostly celebrated at Les Bouchons. This little french eatery is our favourite restaurant in town and one which we’ve visited for years. Les Bouchons never fails to satisfy, and has manage to keep their standards consistent throughout the years. Even their menu have remained unchanged from the first time I visited them.

So as part of a ritual, we celebrated Zann’s b’day over dinner at our little favourite spot… Les Bouchons have recently changed the presentation of their food, which I don’t quite fancy… Still prefer the old presentation in a darker theme… but the food is still oh so good as ever.

Cheers!

The best fries in town are free flow! Yes, the people Les Bouchons are most willing to top this up for you

Les Bouchons has since opened another outlet at Robertson Quay, but I still prefer good old Ann Siang Hill. This visit, I realised the eatery is not enjoying business as brisk as ever, with ample seats unoccupied on a Friday evening.
Visit Les Bouchons once, and be enchanted for a long time

Les Bouchons is at 7 Ann Siang Road.
Parking is a challenge (URA is just across the street, be warned)
I give a rating of 9 burps (becos nothing is perfect)

Tuk Tuk Thai Kitchen

Part 2 of my bummer Sunday with Judy. After viewing St Patrick’s Residences, we headed down to Katong for dinner. Altho spoiled for choices, we made up our minds pretty quickly since our stomachs were growling.

Tuk Tuk Thai Kitchen is your typical family restaurant. It’s decor is simple, the friendly waiting staff are quick to take orders and the diners are mostly families or couples. The menu is extensive I must say, and we spent some time trying to make up our minds. One thing I really like about this place is how quickly they serve up the food. Perfect for hungry diners like us.

We had the Tom Yum clear soup with Prawns. 2 thumbs up for this one! the clear soup was fiery and sour, just the way I like my tom yum soup to be. Prawns are decent though not exactly the freshest. Another thing I like is that the soup was served in what looked like a blow-up aromatherapy dish, the soup was kept warm throughout dinner. If you come here, you MUST order this.

Also on the spread is my all time Thai favourite – the Fish Otak. The fish otak here lacks the extra oomph factor but the soft texture makes up for the lack.
Not the best I’ve had, but decent.

The Spicy Chicken Wings were not at all spicy and tasted like regular fried chicken wings. Nothing spectular cept for it being crispy without being too oily.

The worst dish we had was the Thai Beancurd. Last I recall, beancurd is supposed to be crisp outside and soft inside. This was a hard beancurd, with a weird sort of meat on top.
Didn’t cut it for us and we left it mostly untouched. This shot does the dish A LOT of justice.

Tuk Tuk is a casual place to have a simple meal if you are staying in the East. I will definitely come back here to sample other dishes on its menu, and to have the tom yum soup again

Tuk Tuk Thai Kitchen is at 135/137 East Coast Road (opposite Katong Mall)
Parking is very much a challenge in Katong area. Park opposite at Waraku’s instead. (Be warned, I paid $4 for 1.5hours)
I give a rating of 5.5 burps

White Rabbit

finally managed to get myself and Judz a table at White Rabbit on a Wednesday evening. It’s located diagonally opposite Au Petit Salut (who wants to buy me dinner here?), and unless you are quite blind, you won’t miss it. This new eating institution certainly lived up to its reputation on its much-raved about decor. I was totally awed by the interior, and spent a long time imagining about the many many wedding vows that must have been exchanged previously in its past life as a chapel.

Enter the food. First up was bread. Now, I love bread. and I love it when free flow of bread is served. there are 3 kinds of bread being served here at the White Rabbit – the ciabatta, onion bread and the raisin & walnut bread. I loved all of them and polished off 5 peices. I could have went on if Judz didn’t stop me! the bread is soft and warm, with a very intense aroma. the butter is a disappointment though, would have preferred for it to be more savoury.

Next is entree. We had the Duck Confit Salad, which we were pretty happy with.  The salad itself was tossed with just the right amount of dressing, making it nicely moistened. The duck confit was palatable, and I liked the crunchy duck skin. I would order this dish again in a heartbeat.

We had The White Rabbit Truffle Mac & Cheese as the main course. This is not what I would normally order but since so much has been said about it, I gotta experience it for myself. This is basically a “zhng-ed” macaroni & cheese, a much more glamourized version, to be specific. Honestly, the presentation kindda turned me off quite abit. It gave me the jitters with the “holes” of the macaroni staring at me. Liked the taste, but not for long. The first few mouthfuls were delightful but subsequently, the dish got too bland for my liking. Maybe it’s just my palatte.

We were not very hungry and thus only shared an entree and main course. Normally I won’t pass up on dessert but their dessert menu really didn’t get me at all excited and thus we hoped over to House for my favourite Strawberry Shortcake (which Judz loved to bits too).
I would liken my experience at White Rabbit to mediocre sex. I was heightened with excitement when I stepped in, and the whole experience of dining there was good, but not good enough to warrant an orgasm. and towards the end of the meal, I was already getting impatient to step out for a ciggy & to get my satisfaction and finale for the night elsewhere.

In all fairness though, I will be back at White Rabbit sometime soon to try out other dishes on their menu. Who knows, if I make other choices the next time, I might get an orgasm. Or even multiple ones.

White Rabbit is at 39C, Harding Road
Parking can be a challenge on weekends, as parking space is limited. its free parking though
I give a rating of 6.5 burps.
